Building a DIY chicken coop for the least amount of money is a simple process. Locate a high spot where there won’t be any drainage Problems even after a storm.

Establish the size of the coop that you will need ; you may want to think about leaving extra space in your design for growth. Laying hens require 1 0.5 to two sq. feet of space each inside the chicken coop.

Configure a design on paper showing all of the basic parts ; sides, roof, entrance and most likely windows. Remnants of an old shed can be disassembled and reused ; look for any scrap plywood or lumber from prior projects or that’s not in use.

Install 4 feet high fencing around the yard and be sure and bury the bottom twelve inches in the ground to protect from predators. Hang feeders and water bins off the ground on the outside of the coop. You now have the basics for building a DIY chicken coop.
